Preserve your precious memories!

Do you have old photos, music, and videos at home that you want to bring into the digital age? We have the equipment you need to make that happen. Set aside some time and we’ll help you get started.

Special thanks to the Osceola Friends of the Library for their support in funding this project.

What Should I Bring?

  • Your Osceola library card. A library card is required to use TechCentral.
  • Something to save your files on, for example:
    • USB flash drive
    • SD card
    • External hard drive
    • A blank CD-R or DVD-R
    • Personal laptop device
    • It may also be possible to save your files to a cloud-based environment like Dropbox or Google Drive.

Note: 1GB of storage can hold one hour of video, 150 images, or 1000 minutes of audio

Items to convert

Video

  • VHS tapes
  • VHS-C cassette tapes
  • DVDs
  • Camcorders (includes mini DV and Hi8). Be aware that you may NEED to bring your camcorder depending on the type of video.
  • 8mm and Super 8mm film strips (3”, 5”, 7”, 8”, or 9”)
  • Any other input source with RCA/AV output

Audio

  • 33-1/3 and 45 RPM vinyl records
  • Cassette tapes
  • CDs

Photos/Documents

  • Printed photographs
  • Documents
  • Color and B&W photograph negatives
  • 50mm slides

The photo and document scanner can scan directly to email and PDF, accommodates bulky items, books, oversized prints, and documents, restores color to faded photos, removes dust, and even converts documents into editable text.

How does it work?

  • Book time for self-service access to the equipment using our online calendar.
  • Reserve as much time as you need to complete your project.
  • Converting takes time! Plan ample time to monitor the conversion process – projects should be completed in one reservation or make multiple reservations for larger projects.
  • The Makerspace Technicians will show you how to use the equipment and set up your project.
  • A waiver must be signed by an adult acknowledging proper use of the space and equipment.
  • The Makerspace Technicians are available for assistance.
