Hart Memorial Library now has a STEAM room in the Children’s Department! Located on the second floor, this room is a dedicated space for exploration, creativity, and hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
To ensure a safe, engaging, and productive environment for all, please adhere to the following guidelines:
Eligibility and Access
- The STEAM Room is open to children 3-10 years.
- Children under 10 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
- STEAM Room limit is 8 people (including caregivers).
- Groups are limited to a 1-hour block of time. Please inform staff when leaving.
- Check in at service desk.
- Check out at service desk when leaving.
Supervision
- Library staff are not responsible for direct supervision of individual children.
- Caregivers must remain in the Children’s Department while their child is using the STEAM Room.
- Caregivers, please engage with children during activities.
- Misuse of equipment or failure to follow rules may result in dismissal from the room.
Safety and Conduct
- Use of equipment and materials must be supervised and in accordance with their intended purpose.
- Running or disruptive behavior is not permitted.
- Food and drinks are not allowed in the STEAM Room to protect the equipment.
Use of Equipment and Materials
- All STEAM Room materials and equipment are for shared use. Be considerate and allow other to take turns.
- Users must handle all items with care and report any damages to library staff immediately.
- ALL items must remain in STEAM Room.
Clean-Up and Organization
- Children and caregivers must clean up their workplace after use.
- Return all materials and equipment to their designated storage areas.
Consequences of Misconduct
- Failure to follow the STEAM Room guidelines or staff instructions may result in temporary loss of access to the space.
WARNING: Equipment inside STEAM Room includes small parts that are not intended for children under 3 years old.
